However, in the era of artificial\nintelligence (AI), that busyness is beginning to change.<\/p>\n<p>Now, most coding work is starting to be taken over by AI. Perplexity\nAI CEO Aravind Srinivas highlighted this shift.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed his view by reposting a social media upload discussing\nhow large language models (LLMs) are beginning to automate coding\nwork.<\/p>\n<p>The post, which garnered more than 15,000 likes and nearly one\nmillion views, also stated that the impact of AI automation is bringing\ncomputer science back to its roots closer to mathematics and\nphysics.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Srinivas briefly commented \u201cwell said\u201d. His response\nseems to indicate that the view aligns with what is now beginning to\nhappen in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Anthropic\u2019s \u201cAI Exposure\u201d index places programmers at\naround 75 percent coverage of tasks by LLMs, the highest compared to\nother professions they studied.<\/p>\n<p>This data shows that AI not only makes the coding process faster but\ncan also handle most tasks in that work.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the changes occurring do not stop at efficiency alone.\nPreviously, programmers spent much of their time writing and tidying up\ncode, but now those tasks are starting to be automated by AI.<\/p>\n<p>From having to assemble basic code structures first, fixing syntax\nerrors, to generating code snippets, all of that is now replaced and\ndone with the help of AI models.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the focus of programmers\u2019 or software engineers\u2019 work is\nalso shifting. They are no longer just focused on writing code, but more\non thinking about more complex matters.<\/p>\n<p>For example, how systems can fail, design compromises (trade-offs),\nand ensuring architecture remains stable even when used at large\nscales.<\/p>\n<p>This situation gives rise to the view that computer science is slowly\nreturning to its original roots, namely logic, mathematics, and\nsystematic thinking.<\/p>\n<p>A similar opinion was also expressed by Anthropic CEO Dario Amode,\nwho said that AI has the potential to handle most software engineer work\nin the next 6 to 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Amode said, some engineers at Anthropic now no longer write\ncode directly.
