The development of artificial intelligence (AI), the\ndigital economy, and international trade means legal practitioners must\nalso master issues such as cybersecurity, personal data protection,\ndigital business disputes, and geopolitical dynamics that affect\ncross-border business activities. These changes are driving the need for\nhuman resources with a multidisciplinary perspective capable of\nconnecting aspects of law, technology, business, and international\nrelations.<\/p>\n
This shift is also influencing the approach of higher education in\npreparing relevant human resources for industry needs. Binus University,\nthrough its Binus Graduate Program, has launched the Master of Business\nLaw, a postgraduate programme designed to equip professionals and future\nleaders to face legal challenges in the digital and globalisation\nera.<\/p>\n
The programme was introduced at an event held at the Binus @Kemanggisan<\/span>, Anggrek\nCampus, West Jakarta, on Friday (26\/6), attended by students, academics,\nlegal practitioners, regulators, and the public. The event was opened by\nthe Director of the Binus Graduate Program, Prof.\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Sani M. Isa,\nS.Si., M.Kom., alongside the Secretary General of the National\nLeadership Board of the Indonesian Advocates Association (Peradi),\nDr.\u00a0Hermansyah Dulaimi.<\/p>\n The keynote session featured the Chairman of Commission III of the\nHouse of Representatives, Habiburokhman, and the Vice Minister of Trade,\nDyah Roro Esti Widya Putri. In their presentations, both highlighted the\nimportance of regulatory readiness and human resources in facing the\nacceleration of digital transformation, which affects trade, investment,\nand business activities at both national and international levels. They\nnoted that regulations must evolve adaptively to meet the changing needs\nof society and the business world.<\/p>\n As part of the launch, Binus introduced the Master of Business Law,\nwhich places international trade law as its core focus, strengthened by\nstudies in cyber law, ICT law, and digital forensics. The programme was\ndeveloped with a multidisciplinary approach that connects aspects of\nlaw, business, technology, and international relations, enabling\nstudents to understand various legal issues within the modern business\necosystem. Through this approach, students are expected to gain an\nunderstanding of emerging issues in digital transactions, cybersecurity,\npersonal data protection, international trade, and technology-related\ndispute resolution.<\/p>\n Prof.\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Shidarta, S.H., M.Hum., Head of the Master of Business Law\nprogramme at Binus University, stated that the programme is intended to\nmeet the evolving needs of the workforce amid digital transformation.\nUnlike conventional master of law programmes, the Binus Master of\nBusiness Law is open to graduates from various disciplines. This\napproach provides an opportunity for professionals from business,\ntechnology, communications, government, and other fields to deepen their\nunderstanding of legal aspects that are increasingly important in the\nworkplace and industry. The programme also implements a hybrid learning\nsystem, combining online and offline learning to provide flexibility for\nstudents. With a study period of 18 months, the programme is designed to\nallow professionals to continue their education without leaving their\ncareers.<\/p>\n The launch was accompanied by a talkshow titled \u2018Law in the Age of AI\nand Digital Economy in International Trade\u2019, featuring CEO of Perqara\nand lawyer at Hasibuan & Hasibuan, Yakup Putra Hasibuan;\nInternational Relations lecturer at Binus University, Dr.\u00a0Tia Mariatul\nKibtiah; and Business Law lecturer at Binus University and Managing\nPartner of Reza Zaki Law Firm, Dr.\u00a0Muhammad Reza Syariffudin Zaki. The\ndiscussion explored various developments shaping the global business law\nlandscape. From a technological perspective, the discussion covered\ndevelopments in cyber law, modern litigation practices, business dispute\nresolution, and legal challenges within the digital ecosystem and\ntechnology platforms. The speakers also highlighted how global\ngeopolitical and geo-economic changes are increasingly influencing\ninternational trade, investment, and the formation of legal policies in\nvarious countries. The international relations perspective was also a\nfocus, particularly regarding the dynamics of global conflict, the role\nof ASEAN, and their implications for regional stability and regulatory\ndevelopments in different countries. In this context, business law is\nseen as playing a strategic role in bridging business needs with the\nvarious changes occurring at the global level.<\/p>\n Through the discussion, participants gained insight into how\ntechnological developments, international trade, and geopolitics are\ninterconnected and influence modern legal practice. This situation\nindicates that the need for legal professionals with a multidisciplinary\nperspective will become increasingly important in the future. According\nto Shidarta, graduates of the programme are expected not only to have\nacademic understanding but also to be able to provide solutions to\nvarious legal challenges emerging in the digital era.
