Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development\nAgus Harimurti Yudhoyono has addressed the future of the Jakarta-Bandung\nHigh-Speed Train (Whoosh), stating that the government will complete the\nfinancial restructuring of the project first, before extending the route\nto the Surabaya region in East Java.<\/p>\n
However, Agus ensured that the restructuring process would continue\nand be carried out in parallel. He stated that the restructuring efforts\nhad been discussed several days earlier in a coordination meeting with\nFinance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, CEO of Danantara Indonesia Rosan\nRoeslani, and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n
The General Chairman of the Democratic Party emphasised that\nfinancial restructuring is an important matter that must be completed\nbefore developing a more serious roadmap for extending the route to\nSurabaya.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe should first ensure the Whoosh is completed, meaning we can find\ngood solutions, and only then develop the next phase,\u201d Agus said at Bina\nGraha Building in the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on\nWednesday, 11 March 2026.<\/p>\n
Agus stated that the government still has the determination to manage\nand develop the Whoosh project. In fact, the government is committed to\nextending the Whoosh route not only to Surabaya but all the way to\nBanyuwangi, East Java, in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s\ndirection.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Transport, through the Directorate General of\nRailways, Agus said, is also continuing to formulate ways to make the\nhigh-speed rail project more effective and beneficial. According to him,\na longer route would make the train\u2019s speed more optimal.<\/p>\n
For Agus, the development of Whoosh will significantly transform\nIndonesia\u2019s transport sector. \u201cThis is being developed further because\nit will be a game changer \u2013 Jakarta to Surabaya can be reached in\napproximately 3 hours by train,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
