Infrastructure Coordinating Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY)\nhas announced the readiness of national road infrastructure from Sumatra\nthrough to Papua ahead of Eid celebrations. The total length of national\nnon-toll roads serving as primary mobility routes during the holiday\nperiod exceeds 47,000 kilometres.<\/p>\n
\u201cColleagues, regarding our national non-toll roads\u2014I repeat, non-toll\nroads\u2014we report there are more than 47,000 kilometres that we must\ncontinue to maintain,\u201d AHY said during a press conference at the State\nSecretariat Building (Bina Graha) in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 11\nMarch 2026.<\/p>\n
According to AHY, the general road quality index for national\nnon-toll roads currently stands at approximately 93.2 per cent. He noted\nthis applies to national roads across various Indonesian regions, from\nJava-Bali, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, to\nPapua.<\/p>\n
\u201cRoad conditions vary, but in general, the quality of national\nnon-toll roads is approximately 93.2 per cent. Admittedly, provincial\nroads and regency\/municipal roads have different quality levels.\nHowever, we can report that national non-toll roads\u2014whether in\nJava-Bali, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, and\nPapua\u2014are generally in good and sound condition,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
However, AHY acknowledged that road quality can differ when\ntransitioning to provincial or regency\/municipal roads. Nevertheless,\nthe government ensures that national roads under central authority\nremain ready and safe for use to support smooth holiday migration\ntraffic.<\/p>\n
The government continues undertaking maintenance efforts to repair\ndamaged road sections. AHY stated that the Public Works Ministry has\nestablished a specialised team called the Disaster Relief Unit (DRU)\ntasked with rapidly addressing road damage in the field.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand, however, that we must continue maintenance and repair\ndamaged roads. We have established what the Public Works Ministry calls\nthe Disaster Relief Unit. The DRU\u2019s job is to quickly deploy heavy\nequipment and materials to immediately patch\u2014I repeat, repair or\nfill\u2014potholes so they can be used immediately and not excessively impede\ntravel,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the government has identified numerous disaster-prone\nlocations along migration routes. There are 807 flood-prone points,\n1,641 landslide-prone points, and 15 tidal flood-prone points scattered\nacross various Indonesian regions.<\/p>\n

To counter potential disruptions, 1,461 DRU units have been\nmobilised, fully equipped with heavy machinery and supporting materials.\nThese teams will respond rapidly if road damage or infrastructure\ndisruption occurs that could impede smooth holiday and return traffic\nflow.<\/p>\n
