AHY, the chairman of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono\n(AHY), spoke about the war in the Middle East after Israel and the\nUnited States attacked Iran. AHY emphasised that no one wants the\nconflict to become World War III.<\/p>\n
He conveyed this at a breaking-fast gathering of the Democratic Party\nat the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, on Wednesday 4 March 2026. He had\npreviously noted that Ramadan this year arrives amid a world that is not\nin good shape.<\/p>\n
\u2018This year, Ramadan arrives in a world that is not in good shape. In\nvarious parts of the world, especially in the Middle East, we are\nwitnessing conflicts and wars that bring about loss of life, suffering,\nand destruction,\u2019 AHY said in his remarks.<\/p>\n
AHY said Ramadan, which should be a door to mutual forgiveness, is\ninstead becoming a moment of mutual destruction. He said he is concerned\nabout the situation.<\/p>\n
\u2018Ramadan, which should bring inner peace, is instead shadowed by\nanxiety, uncertainty, and deep sorrow. Of course this is very worrying,\u2019\nhe said.<\/p>\n
\u2018But rest assured, our hearts, our minds, and our prayers are always\nwith our brothers and sisters in conflict areas and war zones. Always in\nour prayers and efforts to find the best possible solutions,\u2019 he\ncontinued.<\/p>\n
That is why AHY hopes the situation in the Middle East does not\ndeteriorate. He asked all parties to prevent it.<\/p>\n
\u2018Therefore we all do not want in the Middle East to become a\nflashpoint that could lead to a more ferocious war, let alone World War\nIII. We must do everything we can to prevent it,\u2019 said the Coordinating\nMinister for Infrastructure.<\/p>\n
AHY also hoped the government would begin preparing for the\nworst-case scenario of the impact of the escalation in the Middle East.\n\u2018We must prepare ourselves to anticipate and mitigate all risks that\ncould occur, particularly in the economic, energy security, and also\nfood sectors,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
AHY is confident that de-escalation is possible. He emphasised that\nit is not impossible.<\/p>\n
\u2018Of course this is not easy, but where there is a will, there is a\nway. I also think it is not impossible. God always prepares a path for\nanyone who makes a sincere effort,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
