The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional\nDevelopment, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), has asserted that the\ndevelopment of connectivity is one of the key elements in accelerating\nregional economic growth and public welfare in Papua.<\/p>\n
\u201cInter-regional connectivity is believed to be able to open economic\naccess, smooth the distribution of goods and services, and create new\njob opportunities for the community,\u201d said AHY in Sentani on\nThursday.<\/p>\n
His office will lead a coordination meeting on infrastructure and\nconnectivity development, which will involve regional heads from across\nthe Papua region.<\/p>\n
\u201cTomorrow, Friday (18\/9), we will hold a coordination meeting\ninvolving regional leaders, governors, vice governors, as well as\nregents and mayors to discuss infrastructure and connectivity\ndevelopment in the Papua region,\u201d AHY stated.<\/p>\n
He explained that development in Papua requires special attention,\ngiven that the region currently comprises six provinces and 42\nregencies\/cities, each facing unique geographical challenges and diverse\ndevelopment needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe central government must continue to oversee the various\naspirations presented by regional heads, as they represent the people of\nPapua,\u201d said AHY.<\/p>\n
He added the importance of road construction connecting various areas\nin Papua to ensure community economic activities continue to flourish,\nas adequate road access will increase mobility, expand business\nopportunities, and encourage increased purchasing power across various\nregions.<\/p>\n
\u201cFurthermore, strengthening maritime connectivity and air transport\nin Papua is essential. This is considered strategic for reducing\nlogistics costs while smoothing the flow of people and goods, especially\nto areas that remain difficult to reach,\u201d AHY noted.<\/p>\n
Minister AHY stated that he intends to use the momentum of the\ncoordination meeting to engage in direct dialogue with regional heads to\nabsorb various inputs and provide directives regarding infrastructure\ndevelopment priorities in Papua.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe emphasise that the government is committed to ensuring Papua does\nnot lag behind other regions in Indonesia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Even distribution of infrastructure development aims not only to\nincrease economic growth but also serves as a crucial factor in\nsupporting stability, security, and public welfare.<\/p>\n
