        "content": "<p>Tangerang (ANTARA) \u2014 The Tangerang city administration in Banten,\nthrough the Culture and Tourism Agency (Disbudpar), has reported that\nhundreds of residents from Babakan subdistrict carried out the tradition\nof communal hair-washing in the Cisadane River ahead of the fasting\nmonth, a cultural heritage practice observed annually.<\/p>\n<p>The head of the Cultural Affairs Division at Tangerang\u2019s Disbudpar,\nSupendi, said on Tuesday that the communal hair-washing is a tradition\npassed down through generations.<\/p>\n<p>Residents regard the activity as an occasion for self-purification\nbefore undertaking the Ramadan fast, as well as an opportunity to\nstrengthen community bonds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey gather together. After washing their hair together, they ask\none another for forgiveness and pray that the Ramadan worship ahead will\ngo smoothly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Supendi added that the communal hair-washing is a cultural heritage\nthat the community continues to preserve despite the passage of many\ngenerations. According to him, the tradition is not merely a collective\nbathing activity but is imbued with spiritual and social\nsignificance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a tradition of the Babakan community that has been practised\nfor decades along the banks of the Cisadane River. Its value lies not\nonly in cleansing the body but also in purifying the heart and\nstrengthening bonds of fellowship ahead of Ramadan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The secretary to the Tangerang sub-district head, Ahmad Taufik\nHidayat, explained that the tradition is held annually by residents of\nneighbourhood associations RW 01 and RW 02 in Babakan subdistrict,\ninvolving all segments of the community from children to the\nelderly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe communal hair-washing is carried out to welcome Ramadan in a\nstate of physical and spiritual cleanliness. It also serves as an\neducational tool to encourage the community to be more diligent in\nworship, fasting, and increasing religious activities,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
