PDIP General Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri has delivered a\nmessage to workers ahead of Labour Day or May Day on 1 May. Megawati\naddressed workers\u2019 welfare.<\/p>\n
Megawati\u2019s message was conveyed through a short video screened during\na focus group discussion (FGD) titled \u2018New Employment Law and the\nMigrant Indonesian Worker (PMI) Protection Bill from the Perspective of\nWorkers\/Labourers\u2019 at the Lenteng Agung Party School in South Jakarta,\non Monday (27\/4\/2026). The event was attended by Indonesian Minister of\nManpower Yassierli, PDIP Central Executive Board Secretary-General Hasto\nKristiyanto along with PDIP Central Executive Board Chairmen, members of\nthe Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDIP Faction, several\nacademics, NGOs, representatives from Worker\/Labour Union Confederations\nand Federations, as well as networks of Migrant Worker\/Labour\nOrganisations.<\/p>\n
In the short video shown, Megawati reminded the importance of\nworkers\u2019 welfare. Megawati also emphasised the importance of\nunderstanding the struggles of workers through historical, ideological,\nand cultural perspectives.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe struggle to improve the welfare of farmers, workers, and\nfishermen is an absolute prerequisite for achieving social justice for\nall Indonesian people for the advancement of Greater Indonesia,\u201d stated\nMegawati\u2019s message as per the PDIP press release on Monday (27\/4).<\/p>\n
In her message, Megawati specifically welcomed Labour Day. She\naffirmed that workers\u2019 welfare is an absolute prerequisite for achieving\nsocial justice.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, PDIP Central Executive Board Secretary-General Hasto\nKristiyanto emphasised in his speech the concept of sovereign,\nindependent, and prosperous workers from the perspective of Bung Karno\u2019s\nteachings. \u201cThis includes the consolidation of the national industry to\ncreate an economic chain that generates employment for workers,\u201d said\nHasto.<\/p>\n
Hasto stated that the Bill must include policies to enhance workers\u2019\nprofessionalism and productivity, either through self-reliance or state\nintervention.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, workers must also organise themselves. History teaches that\nif workers are sovereign and strong, it will become an effective path\nfor policies that favour workers, yet still maintain good industrial\nrelations,\u201d Hasto stressed.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Minister of Manpower Yassierli, as per the statement\nshared by PDIP, discussed the national employment development vision\nformulated through the slogan \u2018Advance the Industry-Prosper the Workers\u2019\nas a strategic pillar towards Golden Indonesia 2045. He also\nacknowledged the major challenge of managing 154 million workers.<\/p>\n
Based on August 2025 data, around 55.00% of workers are in the\nvulnerable informal sector, with a national unemployment rate of\n4.85%.<\/p>\n
For information, the current regulations are triggered by\nConstitutional Court Decision Number 168\/PUU-XXI\/2023, which mandates\nthe establishment of a new Employment Law independently and separately\nfrom the Job Creation Law (Law 6\/2023) within a maximum period of two\nyears.<\/p>\n
