Agus reelected Bogor regent<\/p>\n
BOGOR: Incumbent Bogor regent Agus Utara Effendi was reelected
\nfor the second period of 2003-2008 on Wednesday with Albert
\nPribadi as his deputy.<\/p>\n
Agus, nominated by Golkar Party, won 25 of 45 votes, leaving
\ntwo other contenders, Yus Juhaer and Endang Kosasih, behind with
\n16 and three votes respectively. One vote was invalid.<\/p>\n
His victory was colored by the protest of supporters of
\nEndang, who was nominated by the United Development Party (PPP)
\nalong with deputy regent candidate A. Mohamad Haris.<\/p>\n
The protesters -- positioned in front of the Bogor Regency
\nCouncil building -- accused the party's faction chairman, Rachmat
\nYasin, of "betraying the party's policy to support Endang."<\/p>\n
Endang, the incumbent spokesman of the council, responded to
\nthe protest by calling upon Bogor residents to accept the vote.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Journalists Association's (PWI) Bogor branch
\nchairman Khoirul Azwar said that Agus had not been a good source
\nof news during his first tenure.<\/p>\n
"We can only hope that he will do a better job in providing

JAKARTA: Governor Sutiyoso fired City General Election
\nCommission (KPUD) secretary Ismet Hasan on Tuesday over
\nallegations of corruption. Ismet was replaced by Abdul Ahmad,
\nformer deputy head of the City Sanitary Agency.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso declined to comment on the decision but only said
\nthat it was made based on information about his track record from
\nvarious parties.<\/p>\n
A reliable source at City Hall said that the governor's
\ndecision was made after getting the investigation result from the
\nCity Audit Agency (Bawasda).<\/p>\n
Chairman of the commission M. Taufik refused to comment on the
\ndismissal, saying that it was the governor's right to dismiss

JAKARTA: A woman, identified as Sri Sulastri, 38, was arrested
\nfor stealing jewelry and cash valued at Rp 2 billion (US$235,294)
\nin at least three separate incidents in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
She was arrested by police on Tuesday afternoon at a house
\nowned by Sri Cahyani Diah in Lebak Bulus, Cilandak, South
\nJakarta, when the suspect attempted to apply for a job as a maid
\nin the victim's home.<\/p>\n
Apparently, the victim's father, Sumarso, had previously been
\nrobbed by the suspect. Sulastri, who worked for only two hours as
\na maid for Sumarso had managed to steal jewelry worth Rp 1
\nbillion.<\/p>\n
The victim, recognized the suspect from her father's
\ndescription. Her suspicion increased as the suspect had arrived
\nin a rented Toyota Kijang van.<\/p>\n
She then contacted the police.<\/p>\n
At the Cilandak police subprecinct, the suspect was identified
\nby her other victims, Samsul and Mubasaroh, a Pakistani. They
\nsuffered losses of Rp 400 million in jewelry and RP 50 million in
\ncash respectively.<\/p>\n
Police seized from the victim three ID cards under different

JAKARTA: The Nippon Maru, part of a Southeast Asian youth
\nprogram, will be docked at the Tanjung Priok Port in North
\nJakarta from Sept. 16 to Sept. 19.<\/p>\n
A press release from the Japanese Embassy said over 300 youths
\nfrom 10 ASEAN countries and Japan -- including 29 Indonesians --
\nwere taking part in the program.<\/p>\n
The ship began its journey in Singapore on Sept. 14. It will
\nleave Indonesia on Sept. 19 and continue to Malaysia, Thailand,
