Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman,\nstated that the national development of bioethanol has the potential to\ncreate around eight million jobs through the development of energy\nproduction areas based on agricultural commodities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are moving towards energy independence; if this happens, it is\nequally important that at least eight million permanent jobs are\ncreated. Isn\u2019t that great? Indonesia is very vast, and we are optimistic\nwe can achieve this,\u201d said Amran following a Coordination Meeting on the\nAcceleration of Bioethanol Development with 44 regents from various\nproduction centre regions in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
The Minister noted that bioethanol development aims not only to\nstrengthen national energy independence but also to open new economic\nopportunities for the community through the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n
According to him, the bioethanol programme will create employment\nthrough various stages, ranging from the provision of raw materials and\nthe management of agricultural areas to the energy processing\nindustry.<\/p>\n
Amran explained that bioethanol development will be carried out by\nutilising three strategic commodities, namely sugarcane, cassava, and\nmaize, as the primary sources of raw materials.<\/p>\n
The involvement of local governments is directed towards accelerating\nland preparation, mapping regional potential, and developing commodities\nthat meet the needs of the bioethanol industry.<\/p>\n
The Minister revealed that the development of bioethanol areas\nrequires approximately 1 million to 2 million hectares to ensure the\nsustainable availability of raw materials.<\/p>\n
He emphasised that the government will prioritise the use of\navailable and suitable land for the development of energy crops while\nmaintaining environmental considerations.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Amran stated that the construction of the bioethanol\nindustry will involve State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and the private\nsector through investment cooperation to accelerate programme\nimplementation.<\/p>\n
He assessed that land certainty is a crucial factor to ensure that\nbioethanol industry investments can proceed and provide economic\nbenefits to the wider community.<\/p>\n
In addition to job creation, the programme is expected to strengthen\nthe position of the agricultural sector as a primary supporter of the\nnational energy transition.<\/p>\n
Amran ensured that the government continues to encourage the\ndevelopment of agriculture-based energy as a step towards energy\nsovereignty while reducing dependence on imported energy sources.<\/p>\n
He is optimistic that collaboration between the central government,\nregional governments, SOEs, and the private sector can accelerate the\nrealisation of a national bioethanol industry.<\/p>\n
