The Attorney General's Office has named former junior attorney general for special crimes, Febrie Adriansyah, a suspect in a money laundering case and detained him at a KPK facility. The AGO cited security concerns and his history of handling major corruption cases as reasons for the placement. Febrie has protested the detention, claiming the evidence is insufficient and alleging the move amounts to criminalisation.

The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has officially named former
Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie
Adriansyah, a suspect in an alleged money laundering case (TPPU).
Following the designation, Febrie will be detained for the next 20 days
at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Detention Centre in East
Jakarta.

Junior Attorney General for Supervision (Jamwas) Rudi Margono
explained that Febrie’s placement in the KPK detention centre was based
on security considerations and inter-agency synergy. According to Rudi,
Febrie’s track record of handling large-scale corruption cases was a
primary reason behind the decision.

“We deemed it necessary for his protection as well, for
accountability, transparency, and synergy with the KPK. Because he has
handled many major cases, that is one of the considerations for why he
is detained there,” Rudi told reporters in Jakarta on Friday
(24/7/2026).

Rudi stated that the detention would support the smooth investigation
process being carried out by Team 9, a special team formed to
investigate the case. He also urged all parties, including the media, to
respect the ongoing legal process by upholding the presumption of
innocence.

“As a form of accountability, we must build a legal civilisation of
mutual respect, especially during the investigation process where the
presumption of innocence applies. Hopefully, Team 9 will continue to
carry out its duties as best as possible,” he stressed.

Previously, Febrie expressed his objection to the detention. He
argued that the evidence presented was still minimal and that the
handling procedure differed from the standard applied at the Bundar
Building, the AGO’s headquarters.

“I have discussed with the examining prosecutor that the evidence
submitted still needs to be explored or confirmed. In my view, this is
not yet sufficient for detention. At the Bundar Building, it was never
like this; all evidence must be confirmed, explored, and exposed
repeatedly before we are certain,” Febrie said after his examination on
Friday evening (24/7/2026).

Febrie suspected that his suspect designation and detention were a
form of criminalisation. Nevertheless, he stated he was ready to face
the legal process.

“But this is the leadership’s decision, I am ready to face it and I
do feel this is criminalisation,” Febrie asserted.
",
