After four days, Tommy gets his uniform<\/p>\n

After being bombarded with criticism by the media, policemen
\non Saturday were seen escorting their top detainee Hutomo \"Tommy\"
\nMandala Putra before journalists, but this time wearing a dark
\nblue outfit -- a detainee's uniform.<\/p>\n
The police apparently did not want to risk further censure for
\nnot providing a uniform for Tommy.<\/p>\n
Apart from the uniform, Tommy will -- beginning on Saturday --
\nspend the night in his own cell, no. A-11.<\/p>\n
In a media conference on Saturday, newly installed Jakarta
\nPolice chief of detectives Sr. Comr. Bambang Hendarso Danuri said
\nthe police had never intended to give Tommy special treatment.<\/p>\n
\"It was his sisters who asked us to treat him well, as he is a
\nspoiled son. We can understand their request, but rules are
\nrules,\" said Bambang, who was installed on Friday.<\/p>\n
Previously, Tommy had slept in the luxury of an air-
\nconditioned room with private bathroom -- the office of the
\ndetention unit chief.<\/p>\n
Tommy, the youngest son of former president Soeharto, has
\nnever been seen before wearing a detainee's uniform, the type of
\nwhich was also once worn by his nephew Ari Haryo Wibowo and the
\nlatter's wife Gusti Maya Firanti Noor.<\/p>\n
Tommy wore a detainee's shirt, bearing the number 093, and
\nlight brown shorts when he was brought into the questioning room
\non Saturday.<\/p>\n
This occurred only a day after Bambang had taken office as
\nJakarta Police chief of detectives, replacing Adang Rochjana.<\/p>\n
To reporters earlier, Adang had maintained that the police did
\nnot have a uniform available for Tommy and also that the cells
\nwere so full that he had had to sleep outside them.<\/p>\n
\"There is no difference in the policies between me and my
\npredecessor. All policy comes from the city police chief and we
\nonly carry it out,\" Bambang said.<\/p>\n
\"But as far as I'm concerned, the detainee's uniform is
\nessential,\" he said.<\/p>",
