Bezos, ranked the world\u2019s\nfourth-richest person with a fortune of US$248 billion (Rp4,418\ntrillion) according to Forbes, predicts AI will trigger a labour\nshortage rather than replace human workers.<\/p>\n<p>His remarks were made during an appearance at the VivaTech technology\nconference in Paris, France, on Wednesday (17\/6). He outlined his vision\nfor the future of technology, including his space venture Blue Origin\nand his latest AI startup, Prometheus, which focuses on accelerating\nphysical manufacturing processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know there is a lot of concern from many people, including many\nsmart people, that AI will make humans no longer needed and so on,\u201d\nBezos said, as quoted by Reuters on Thursday (18\/6\/2026). \u201cI completely\ndisagree with that point of view. And I think, instead, AI will create a\nlabour shortage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bezos\u2019s statement comes as many global companies have cut thousands\nof jobs after pouring large investments into AI development. Many firms,\nparticularly in the technology sector, link the layoffs to efficiency\ngains driven by the rapid adoption of AI.<\/p>\n<p>A report by global outplacement firm Challenger, Gray &amp; Christmas\nshowed that companies in the United States announced 97,006 job cuts in\nMay, with approximately 40% attributed to the use of AI. Public anxiety\nover AI\u2019s impact on employment is also mounting. A Reuters\/Ipsos poll\nthis month found that half of Americans worry that AI advances could\ncost them or a family member their job.<\/p>\n<p>Resistance to AI adoption has emerged across various sectors. From\nyoung people newly entering the job market to labour unions in the South\nKorean automotive industry and Hollywood scriptwriters, many are voicing\nconcerns over the technology\u2019s impact.<\/p>\n<p>However, Bezos believes that human jobs and needs are inexhaustible.\nAccording to the world\u2019s fourth-richest man, with a fortune of around\nUS$250 billion, AI will instead help remove various barriers that have\nlong limited human productivity.<\/p>\n<p>This view is particularly striking given that Amazon itself has cut\naround 30,000 employees since late last year.
