Islamabad previously stated the two nations are in \u201copen war\u201d\nafter Pakistan conducted airstrikes on several Afghan regions, including\nthe capital Kabul.<\/p>\n<p>The offer to facilitate dialogue was announced by Iran\u2019s Foreign\nMinister Abbas Araghchi on Friday 27 February 2026, according to AFP, in\na statement via social media platform X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to provide any assistance\nnecessary to facilitate dialogue and enhance understanding and\ncooperation between the two countries,\u201d Araghchi stated in his\noffer.<\/p>\n<p>Iran, which shares borders with both Pakistan and Afghanistan, has\nmaintained close relations with Islamabad and remains engaged with the\nTaliban authorities currently controlling Kabul, though Teheran has not\nformally recognised Taliban control of Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>When fighting erupted between the two nations in October of last\nyear, Iran also offered to serve as mediator.<\/p>\n<p>The latest clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan resumed following\na fragile ceasefire that had held since October last year, previously\nmediated by Qatar and Turkey, which followed the most deadly wave of\ncross-border violence in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistani military forces conducted airstrikes on several Afghan\nprovinces, including the capital Kabul, on Friday 27 February morning.\nPakistan claimed its forces were responding to attacks launched by\nAfghan forces on Thursday 26 February evening.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Taliban administration stated that attacks on Pakistani\nborder posts on Thursday 26 February evening were retaliatory strikes\nfollowing earlier deadly airstrikes.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistani authorities claimed their military forces killed 133\nTaliban fighters in the strikes. The Taliban authorities announced\nretaliatory attacks had been launched, killing 55 Pakistani soldiers,\nwith several others captured alive.<\/p>\n<p>Relations between the two nations remain strained due to\nlong-standing disputes centred on Pakistan\u2019s allegations that\nAfghanistan harbours militants who conduct attacks in Pakistani border\nregions. The Taliban government denies these accusations.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan\u2019s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated in his remarks that\nan \u201call-out confrontation\u201d was underway with the Taliban administration\nin Afghanistan. Asif also announced the two nations are now in \u201copen\nwar\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur patience has reached its limit. This is now open war between us\nand you (Afghanistan),\u201d Asif stated firmly.<\/p>",
