        "content": "<p>Public prosecutors from the Attorney General\u2019s Office have demanded\nthat the panel of judges at the Corruption Court of the Central Jakarta\nDistrict Court sentence advocate Junaedi Saibih to nine years\u2019\nimprisonment and a fine of Rp600 million, with a subsidiary penalty of\n150 days\u2019 confinement.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors assessed that Junaedi had been proven to be involved in a\nbribery case targeting the panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption\nCourt who were presiding over the case of Permata Hijau Group, PT Wilmar\nGroup, and PT Musim Mas Group in a corruption case relating to exports\nof crude palm oil (CPO) and its derivatives during the period of January\nto April 2022, involving a sum of Rp40 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[We demand the panel of judges] impose a prison sentence of nine\nyears on the defendant Junaedi Saibih, reduced in full by the period the\ndefendant has been in detention, with an order that the defendant remain\nheld in a detention centre,\u201d the prosecutor stated while reading the\nsentencing demands at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Wednesday evening\n(18 February).<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, prosecutors requested that the judges order the relevant\nadvocates\u2019 organisation to revoke Junaedi\u2019s professional standing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo dishonourably discharge the defendant from his position as an\nemployee of the University of Indonesia and as a lecturer at the\nuniversity,\u201d the prosecutor added.<\/p>\n<p>Junaedi was found to have violated Article 6, paragraph 1, point (a),\nin conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Act, in\nconjunction with Article 20, point (c) of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the\nCriminal Code.<\/p>\n<p>In arriving at the sentencing demand, prosecutors outlined a number\nof aggravating and mitigating circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>The aggravating factor was that Junaedi\u2019s actions did not support the\ngovernment\u2019s programme for the conduct of a state administration that is\nclean and free from corruption, collusion, and nepotism.<\/p>\n<p>Junaedi\u2019s actions were deemed to have damaged public trust,\nparticularly in the judicial institution, and to have degraded the\ndignity of the legal profession.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMitigating circumstances: the defendant has no prior criminal\nrecord,\u201d the prosecutor stated.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged bribery offence was committed by Junaedi together with\nhis associates Marcella Santoso, Ariyanto Bakri, and M. Syafei, acting\nas representatives of Wilmar Group, Permata Hijau Group, and Musim Mas\nGroup.<\/p>",
