Administration to renovate school buildings<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The City Administration will renovate five state
\nschool buildings and one subdistrict office building, all of
\nwhich are owned by the city.<\/p>\n
The buildings to be renovated are junior high school SMP
\nNegeri 138 on Jl. Pahlawan Komaruddin in Pulo Gebang, East
\nJakarta, SMP Negeri 43 on Jl. Kapten Tandean in Mampang Prapatan,
\nSouth Jakarta; and senior high school SMA Negeri 78 on Jl. Bhakti
\nin Kemanggisan, West Jakarta, SMA Negeri 21 on Jl. Villa in Tanah
\nMas, East Jakarta and SMA Negeri 15 on Jl. RE Martadinata in
\nAncol, North Jakarta. The subdistrict office to be renovated is
\nlocated in Sukapura on Jl. Tipar in Cakung, North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The plan to renovate the is based on gubernatorial decree No.
\n88\/1995, dated Feb. 1, 1995.<\/p>\n
The decree states that the six buildings will be completely
\ndemolished due to their poor condition. New buildings for the
\nsame purposes will be constructed on the same sites.<\/p>\n
The decree also states that the head of the City Facility
\nOffice as well as the head of the City Restoration and Building
\nArrangement Office are responsible for the implementation of the
\nrenovation projects.<\/p>\n
No information is available on the amount to be spent on the
\nproject.<\/p>\n
Facilities<\/p>\n
In a related development, Sri Umi Soetjipto, a councilor of
\nthe City Council's Commission E in charge of social welfare
\naffairs, reported yesterday that the new buildings will be
\nequipped with modern education facilities, ranging from
\nlaboratories to libraries.<\/p>\n
She urged the City Administration to properly coordinate all
\nrelated offices involved.<\/p>\n
\"Students constitute the country's most important assets for
\nfuture development and we must pay much attention to their
\neducation process. Please work to prevent the renovation works
\nfrom disturbing the students' concentration,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Councilor Ratih Ratna Purnami from Commission D in charge of
\ndevelopment affairs said that the new buildings could be set up
\nin other sites if the current locations are no longer considered
\nappropriate.<\/p>\n
\"But the city administration would have to choose suitable
\nlocations not on disputed land areas,\" she added.<\/p>\n
She urged the city administration to not repeat what happened
\nwtih the SMP Negeri 43 school building in Mampang Prapatan, whose
\nland was claimed by a local resident, resulting in a long
