Adiguna's case on the way to court<\/p>\n

Prosecutors sent on Wednesday murder suspect Adiguna Sutowo to
\nthe notorious Salemba prison, pending his trial expected to start
\nlater this month.<\/p>\n
Head of the intelligence unit at the Jakarta Prosecutor's
\nOffice, Farried Haryanto, said prosecutors were now drafting the
\nindictment on the shooting of Yohannes Berchmans "Rudy" Haerudy
\nNatong which took place early in the new year.<\/p>\n
"I'm sure we can submit the case to court in a week because we
\ndon't have to rewrite much from the police's case file," he told
\nThe Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
Adiguna, a member of the prominent family of the late Ibnu
\nSutowo, a former president of state oil and gas company
\nPertamina, and the youngest brother of property magnate Ponco
\nSutowo, will be charged under laws on murder and the illegal
\npossession of firearms.<\/p>\n
The Criminal Code carries a maximum sentence of 15 years'
\nimprisonment, while the 1951 Emergency Law on explosives carries
\na maximum sentence of life imprisonment.<\/p>\n
The handcuffed Adiguna kept his head down and did not reply to
\nreporters' questions as he was taken from city police detention
\nto the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office.<\/p>\n
Clad in a white Muslim shirt, the former national car racer
\nwas guarded by ten detectives.<\/p>\n
Adiguna was directed into the prosecutor's office with no
\nopportunity given for reporters to question him.<\/p>\n
A panel of a glass door was broken, and several of the
\nreporters were hurt as they tried to get closer to Adiguna.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor's office announced on Monday that the case file
\nof Adiguna was complete and asked police to hand over the suspect
\nand evidence to them.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Firman Gani said
\nthat, according to data from National Police Headquarters, the
\ngun was not licensed and its ownership was unclear.<\/p>\n
"Of course, the gun is an illegal one. And we don't need to
\nfind his fingerprints on it before placing charges against him. I
\nthink laboratory and ballistic tests are enough to back the
\ncharges. It is up to the prosecutors now. I hope that the trial
\nwill be fair," he said.<\/p>\n
So far, the police and the prosecutors have depended on
\nwitnesses affidavits and forensic tests to charge Adiguna as they
\ncould not find his fingerprints on the gun, nor on the 19 bullets
\nfound in Adiguna's hotel room.<\/p>\n
Firman said the police were still gathering evidence to charge
\nAdiguna with drug abuse.<\/p>\n
"We will separate the case file (on drug abuse) from the first
\none. So, there will be two different trials. However, we are
\nstill completing the evidence, and waiting for the results of
\nforensic tests on Adiguna's nail clippings and hair from national
\nheadquarters," he added.<\/p>",
