ADB okays $45m loan for RI health program<\/p>\n
MANILA (Reuter): The Asian Development Bank said yesterday its
\nboard had approved a US$45 million loan to partly finance a
\nhealth and nutrition program in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The Family Health and Nutrition Project, which will be handled
\nby Indonesia's Ministry of Health, aims to help more than 122,000
\nfamilies in remote villages in the country's five underdeveloped
\nprovinces.<\/p>\n
"Under the project, beneficiary families, with the support of
\ntheir community and local health providers, will be trained to
\nidentify their health and nutritional problems and choose
\nappropriate solutions," the bank said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The loan is payable over 25 years, including a five-year grace
\nperiod. Interest rate will be computed with the banks variable
\nlending rate for U.S. dollar loans.<\/p>\n
The bank said it had also approved a $150 million loan to
\nfinance an 89-km (55 miles) toll expressway in Sichuan province
\nin China.<\/p>\n
The expressway project will ease traffic movement of freight
\nand passengers between several port cities in the province and
\ninland municipalities.<\/p>\n
"By relieving traffic congestion, linking economic growth
\nareas with consumer centers, and fostering trade and regional
\nintegration, the project will promote economic growth in a
\nrelatively less affluent inland area," the multilateral financing
\ninstitution said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The loan is to be drawn from the bank's ordinary capital
\nresources, which are payable over 25 years, including a five-year
\ngrace period.<\/p>\n
The interest rate will be determined in accordance with the
\nbank's pool-based variable rate for U.S. dollar loans, which is
\ncurrently 6.82 percent.<\/p>",
