ADB loan for RI project<\/p>\n
MANILA (Reuter): The Asian Development Bank said yesterday it
\nhas approved a US$27.7 million loan to strengthen the development
\nand management of Indonesia's water resources.<\/p>\n
\"The main objective of the project is to enhance...economic
\nmanagement and use of water resources,\" the Manila-based Bank
\nsaid in a statement. \"Existing policies and water management
\ncapacities are inadequate to ensure sustainable, economic
\nallocation and use of water,\" it added.<\/p>\n
The project includes the creation of a national framework to
\ncoordinate policy and planning in the water resources sector. The
\nproject will be completed by the end of 1999.<\/p>\n
The loan will come from the bank's ordinary capital resources
\nand will be repaid over a period of 25 years, including a grace
\nperiod of five years.<\/p>\n
Interest will be determined using the bank's pool-based
\nvariable lending rate system for U.S. dollar loans, which
\ncurrently stands at 6.68 percent a year.<\/p>\n
The bank had also approved its first loan to Kazakhstan,
\noffering $60 million to help the former communist state in its
\ntransition to a market-based economy.<\/p>",
