ADB lends $30m to Indonesia<\/p>\n
MANILA: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said on Monday it
\nwould extend US$330 million in loans to Indonesia to improve the
\ndecentralization process in that country.<\/p>\n
This in turn will help improve the delivery of basic services
\nat the local government level, the ADB said in a statement from
\nits headquarters in Manila.<\/p>\n
A loan of $300 million will go to \"strengthen and rationalize
\nthe policy, legal, and regulatory framework for decentralization,
\nand establish a more effective mechanism for intergovernmental
\ncoordination,\" the ADB said.<\/p>\n
This will include the formulation and implementation of \"a
\nnational action plan for fiscal decentralization,\" the
\nmultilateral institution said.<\/p>\n
Another $30 million loan will go to upgrading financial
\nmanagement information systems, the ADB added.<\/p>\n
Aside from the loan, the ADB will extend a technical
\nassistance grant of $500,000 to improve the technical capacity of
\nthe intergovernmental Regional Autonomy Advisory Council which is
\nresponsible for overseeing decentralization reforms. -- AFP<\/p>",
