Activists claim intimidation<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Activists of Urban Poor Consortium, a non-
\ngovernmental organization, yesterday claimed they had been
\nintimidated by a police officer and unidentified men for helping
\npedicab drivers organize demonstrations to protest Sutiyoso's
\nban.<\/p>\n
Coordinator of the organization, Wardah Hafidz, told reporters
\nthat two activists, Alex Yusutardi and Edi Saidi were intimidated
\nby a security officer and unidentified people a day after they
\nhelped organize a protest by 150 becak drivers at City Hall last
\nweek.<\/p>\n
She said a police officer appeared at Alex's house in
\nPademangan, North Jakarta, and two unidentified men went to Edi's
\nhouse in Jelambar, West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The activists were not at home and the men asked their
\nneighbors about the two's activities, she said.<\/p>\n
As of yesterday, the authorities have transported 1,330
\npedicabs back to their places of origin to beat the July 31
\ndeadline for all the three-wheeled vehicles to leave the capital.
