        "content": "<p>Activist protest fare hike<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of activists and bus users met with Jakarta city<br>\ncouncillors on Thursday to demand they reject a 27 percent bus<br>\nfare increase proposed by Governor Sutiyoso.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The current fares are too high compared to the services<br>\nprovided, therefore we reject the fare increase proposal,&quot;<br>\nAssociation of Public Transportation Users spokesman Andi Rahmah<br>\nsaid during the meeting at City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Other participants at the meeting included members of the<br>\nJakarta Residents Forum (Fakta) and members of the Bus Drivers<br>\nAssociation.<\/p>\n<p>Bus driver spokesman Bambang said the fare increase would not<br>\nbenefit the drivers as he feared bus rental fees would also<br>\nincrease.<\/p>\n<p>Sutiyoso&apos;s proposal was in response to Public Transportation<br>\nOperators Association (Organda) demands for a 50 percent<br>\nincrease.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday the Council returned the proposal to Sutiyoso for<br>\ndiscussions with related parties, namely operators, consumers<br>\norganizations and other related parties.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian Consumers Protection Organization (YLKI) said<br>\nthat Organda should demand the government give them funding from<br>\nthe cut in oil subsidies, instead of increasing fares. --JP<\/p>",
