Activist faces heavy sentence<\/p>\n
SURABAYA, East Java: Prosecutors have demanded five years jail
\nfor Mohammad Soleh, a local member of the unrecognized Democratic
\nPeople's Party, for alleged subversion.<\/p>\n
Led by Ida Kemang Pulawidana, the prosecution at the Surabaya
\ndistrict court said yesterday that Soleh had undermined the state
\nby inciting workers rallies in Surabaya.<\/p>\n
"It has been proved that the defendant and his friends incited
\nmasses of workers to demonstrate in Surabaya's streets," Ida
\nKemang said.<\/p>\n
The prosecution also accused Soleh of threatening national
\nstability and reducing workers' productivity, which adversely
\naffected the country's foreign income.<\/p>\n
"The only redeeming quality that the defendant has is his
\nyoung age and the fact that he has never been convicted," the
\nchief prosecutor said.<\/p>\n
Soleh said he refused to be cowed by the threat of
\nimprisonment. "I will continue my struggle to help workers for
\never. These charges are cheap political ploys," he said. "The
\ncause that I've been fighting for is for the good of the nation.
\nWe won't give up."<\/p>\n
Soleh's colleagues, Dita Indah Sari and Coen Hosein Pontoh,
\nare also charged with subversion. Prosecutors have demanded eight
