        "content": "<p>REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA \u2014 Imparsial activist Ardi Manto Adiputra\nstated that the acid attack case by four TNI members on human rights\ndefender Andrie Yunus must be prosecuted criminally through the general\ncourt. This is crucial to ensure the process is transparent and\naccountable.<\/p>\n<p>Ardi conveyed this as part of the Coalition for Civil Society Reform.\n\u201cThis violent and brutal act damages democracy, overrides the\nConstitution, and attacks human rights,\u201d said Ardi in a press release\nfrom the Civil Society Coalition.<\/p>\n<p>The Civil Society Coalition, he said, deeply regrets the TNI\u2019s\nintention to resolve the matter through the military court. \u201cIt is\ncommon knowledge that the military court has issues with impunity, often\nserving as a space to cover up accountability for general criminal acts\ninvolving TNI members,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>If handled in the military court, Ardi fears it will diminish the\nseverity and systematic nature of the case. \u201cThis could happen if the\ncase implicates higher chain of command perpetrators as intellectual\nactors,\u201d Ardi revealed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf tried in the military court, the case is likely to be closed at\nthe level of field perpetrators only, leaving a trail of unresolved\nhuman rights violations,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Considering the initial indications of field perpetrators involved,\nArdi believes the Head of BAIS, the TNI Commander, and the Minister of\nDefence should not distance themselves from this incident. As the\nhighest commanders of the field perpetrators, all three are responsible\nfor opening up the case thoroughly until the intellectual perpetrators\nare uncovered.<\/p>\n<p>The Civil Society Coalition, according to Ardi, urges Komnas HAM to\nimmediately conduct an investigation and examination to assess the\npossibility of gross human rights violations. This is especially given\nthe victim\u2019s track record as a human rights defender who has been\nactively involved in advocating for the revision of the TNI Law since\nFebruary 2025. \u201cMoreover, there are suspicions of involvement from the\nperpetrators\u2019 institutions, which are allegedly linked to a series of\nviolent incidents, particularly in the riots at the end of August 2025,\u201d\nhe added.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition also demands that the facts presented by the police and\nTNI be re-verified for accuracy through an independent body, namely\nKomnas HAM. They urge Komnas HAM to act proactively in uncovering and\ninvestigating the existing facts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor that purpose, we urge the President to form a joint fact-finding\nteam. At the same time, Komnas HAM should promptly establish a\nfact-finding team to reveal the truth about this case,\u201d said Ardi.<\/p>",
