Pertamina continues to promote community independence through its\nIndependent Energy Village (DEB) programme. This is realised through\nSocial and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) initiatives that\nintegrate the use of new and renewable energy (EBT) with community\neconomic empowerment.<\/p>\n
One such initiative is the DEB \u2018Uma Palak Lestari\u2019 programme, managed\nby Pertamina Patra Niaga Aviation Fuel Terminal (AFT) Ngurah Rai,\nRegional Jatimbalinus, located in Peguyangan, North Denpasar, Bali. To\npersonally observe the success of this CSR programme, Pertamina\nCommissioner Nanik S. Deyang and Independent Commissioner Condro Kirono\nvisited the site on Saturday, 30 May 2026.<\/p>\n
The visit was accompanied by Kadek Ambara Jaya, Director of\nInstitutional and Compliance at Pertamina Patra Niaga, Corporate\nSecretary Arya Dwi Paramita, and members of Pertamina\u2019s management.\nDuring the visit, the Commissioners inspected various programme\nfacilities and participated in a symbolic rice planting ceremony to\nsupport sustainable agriculture based on clean energy.<\/p>\n
Previously, local communities faced limited water supplies for\nagriculture, particularly during long dry seasons, which led to\ndecreased harvests and impacted farmer welfare. The DEB programme was\nintroduced to address these conditions by developing sustainable food\nagriculture supported by renewable energy, alongside the development of\neco-tourism and educational tourism areas.<\/p>\n
In the agricultural sector, Pertamina has implemented an irrigation\nsystem powered by Renewable Battery Technology (RBT) and micro-hydro\nplants with a capacity of 21 kWp. The use of clean energy is capable of\nreducing carbon emissions by up to 27.3 tonnes of CO2eq per year. The\nsystem irrigates 103 hectares of farmland equipped with digital\nirrigation technology and electric agricultural tools, such as tractors\nand rice milling machines.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Pertamina has built the Bale Melajang facility as an\nagricultural education centre, encouraging the use of organic fertiliser\nand providing training in irrigation management based on the Subak\nsystem. The programme has benefited approximately 408 people, including\n24 female farmers. Economic impacts include electricity cost savings of\nup to Rp44 million per year and an increase in rice productivity from\n5.5 tonnes to 7.5 tonnes per hectare. Furthermore, 5 hectares of land\nhave been developed for organic \u2018Mentik Susu\u2019 rice cultivation,\ngenerating an annual turnover of Rp476 million.<\/p>\n
Beyond agriculture, the programme has developed eco-tourism and\neducational tourism areas, including green open spaces, jogging tracks,\na cafe rest area, and a camping ground, attracting approximately 72,000\nlocal and international tourists. The community earns an annual income\nof Rp64 million from these activities.<\/p>\n
Pertamina Commissioner Nanik S. Deyang noted that the CSR programme\nat DEB Uma Palak Lestari serves as an exemplary model of empowerment\nthat successfully integrates the agricultural sector, energy\nindependence, and community-based tourism. She highlighted that the\nprogramme has delivered tangible impacts.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn 2023, these farmers suffered crop failures, but after receiving\nassistance from Pertamina, they are harvesting again and their income\nhas been able to increase up to twofold,\u201d said Nanik.<\/p>\n
She also expressed hope that the programme could be replicated across\nother Pertamina operational areas. \u201cI hope this can be applied in\nvarious other Pertamina areas, as it reaches farmers, small\nentrepreneurs, tourism actors, and others,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
In line with this, Independent Commissioner Condro Kirono emphasised\nthat CSR programmes must create sustainable benefits for communities\nsurrounding company operations. \u201cPertamina strives to empower and\nprosper the community, so it is expected that these efforts will make\nthem feel the benefits of the company\u2019s presence. Through tangible\nbenefits, we hope they will feel a sense of responsibility to protect\nPertamina\u2019s presence as a state-owned company and a national vital\nobject.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Chairman of the Uma Palak Lestari Joint Business Group (KUB), I\nWayan Sukadana, also expressed appreciation for Pertamina\u2019s support,\nwhich has positively impacted local farmers and the community. \u201cSince\nthe arrival of Pertamina\u2019s CSR programme from 2021 to 2026, through\nvarious coaching and facilities provided, it has been able to further\nincrease agricultural yields and improve the economic welfare of our\ngroup members and the community.
