Aceh problem<\/p>\n
As an Acehnese I am glad to hear that there are many comments
\ncoming from the Indonesian elite on what is called the "Acehnese
\nproblem". It is really a controversy, as half of them agree to
\nhave a referendum, and the other half disagree.<\/p>\n
In this reform era we are obliged to accept any difference of
\nopinions. But, as regards the Aceh problem, it is more important
\nto find the right solution than just make comments.<\/p>\n
Since the Acehnese, in the recent mass gathering, demanded a
\nreferendum, the Indonesian government has not yet taken any
\nserious action. Diplomacy is needed to attract the international
\ncommunity to invest their dollars in Indonesia, but preserving
\npeace in the country is more important.<\/p>\n
It should be realized that there is no conflict among the
\nAcehnese community. The conflicts are between the Acehnese and
\nthe Indonesian Military (TNI). So if the President asks the
\nAcehnese to solve their own problem, I think, it is a mistake.
\nThe problem is not going to be solved. On the contrary it will
\nbecome worse. The problem does not belong to the Acehnese alone,
\nbut to Indonesia as well.<\/p>\n
Do not try to use violence to achieve short term goals and
\ncompletely neglect the long-term objective. Because I do not
\nbelieve that the Acehnese wish to be separated from Indonesia.
\nThey want justice in every aspect of life. Once this justice
\nprevails, the Acehnese would be very glad to remain part of the
\nIndonesian unitary republic.<\/p>\n
