Aceh newspaper stops publishing<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Serambi Indonesia, the only daily newspaper
\nin Aceh, has suspended printing for unknown reasons over the last
\nthree days.<\/p>\n
Subscribers and the public alike have been at a loss as to why
\nthe daily, which has become their prime source of information on
\nthe restive territory, has not been published.<\/p>\n
Serambi Indonesia's general manager Darmansyah refused to
\nexplain specifically the reason for the suspension. He told
\nAntara, \"Under present conditions, we find it impossible to do
\nbalanced reporting.\"<\/p>\n
Tension in Aceh remains high. Unexplained murders and attacks
\non government offices and public facilities continue to occur. In
\nthe latest incident, 30 plantation workers were killed in Idi
\nRayeuk last week.<\/p>\n
Darmansyah said that management of the newspaper, which has a
\ncirculation of between 20,000 to 40,000 a day, was negotiating
\nwith \"certain parties\" to reappear. He declined to name the
\nparties.<\/p>",
