The Aceh High Prosecutor\u2019s Office (Kejati) and its regional branches\nacross the westernmost province of Indonesia have resolved 57 cases\nusing restorative justice principles throughout 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cA total of 57 cases in Aceh have been terminated based on\nrestorative justice since January until August 2026,\u201d stated the Head of\nthe Aceh High Prosecutor\u2019s Office, Teuku Rahmatsyah, in Banda Aceh on\nWednesday.<\/p>\n
The former Assistant for Special Crimes at the Aceh High Prosecutor\u2019s\nOffice noted that the dozens of cases terminated via restorative justice\nincluded assault, fraud, theft, narcotics, and other offences.<\/p>\n
He emphasised that punishing perpetrators is a last resort.\nTherefore, when legal issues arise, efforts are made to resolve them\nthrough restorative justice to avoid the necessity of court\nproceedings.<\/p>\n
The requirements for resolving cases through restorative justice\ninclude reaching a peace agreement between all parties, involving both\nthe victims and the perpetrators. Furthermore, the perpetrator must\npromise not to repeat the offence, and the victim must agree to drop all\nlegal claims.<\/p>\n
To support the implementation of restorative justice programmes, the\nAceh High Prosecutor\u2019s Office and its regional branches have established\n\u2018Restorative Justice Houses\u2019 (RJ Houses) across 23 regencies and cities\nin Aceh Province.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn addition to being located within every district prosecutor\u2019s\noffice, RJ Houses have also been established in villages.
