Aceh grows calmer<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH, Aceh: The restive province of Nanggroe Aceh
\nDarussalam has been calmer recently, with both rural and urban
\npeople more active in carrying out their daily tasks.<\/p>\n
"In general the situation is getting better. Roadside vendors
\nin town have returned to their businesses, farmers and fishermen
\nhave returned to their routines while urban transportation
\nservices have also resumed operations," spokesman of the
\nMilitary\/Police faction at the provincial legislature said here
\non Thursday.<\/p>\n
"The most significant thing is that schools are now open.
\nStudents can go back to school peacefully, thanks to the
\nimplementation of Presidential Instruction No. 4\/2001," he said.<\/p>\n
The Presidential Instruction, signed by then president
\nAbdurrahman Wahid, encourages law enforcement and dialogue to
\nsettle the lingering unrest in the province.<\/p>\n
Independent reports have said, however, that killings are
\ncontinuing in Aceh. --Antara<\/p>",
