Aceh fishermen still in India<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Relatives of three Aceh fishermen who have
\nbeen stranded on the Andaman-Nikobar island in the Indian Ocean
\nfor a year are appealing to Governor Syamsuddin Mahmud to send
\nmoney to cover their airfares home.<\/p>\n
They each need Rp 7 million, Nurdinsyam, an uncle of one of
\nthe three fishermen, told Antara.<\/p>\n
The fishermen -- Darlin, Djauhari and Tarzan -- from Meulaboh
\nin West Aceh strayed in late 1995 and were arrested by the Indian
\nauthorities for illegal fishing. They have been held at the Port
\nBlair immigration office since.<\/p>\n
Nurdinsyam said they have completed their prison terms but
\ncould not leave because they did not have the money for their
\nairfares. The three were doing hard labor, but their income was
\nnot enough to pay for their return.<\/p>\n
They all longed to be reunited with their wives and children,
\nNurdinsyam said, quoting a letter from his nephew Djauhari.<\/p>\n
