Chairman of the Majelis Syura of Partai Ummat, Amien Rais, has\nresponded to the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya\nHafid, who described his statement as slander and character\nassassination.<\/p>\n
Amien\u2019s statement concerns allegations of closeness between President\nPrabowo Subianto and State Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.<\/p>\n
Amien stated he is prepared to be taken to court if the mentioned\nparties object and can prove his accusations.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was informed by legal experts that Komdigi has no authority. So,\nthe one with authority is Teddy himself, and that will be brought to\ncourt. And in court, I am very confident, show it! I will ask several\nspecialist doctors whether he is gay or not. That\u2019s it, then we can chat\nagain,\u201d said Amien when met after the Partai Ummat National Congress in\nSleman on Sunday (3\/5).<\/p>\n
In addition, he emphasised the importance of freedom of expression in\nthe democratic system adopted by Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, that\u2019s how it is with me. First, I am certain that democracy\nruns well if the freedom to express opinions guaranteed by our\nconstitution is not restricted or suppressed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Amien views differences of opinion, including those opposing the\ngovernment, as normal as long as they concern the nation\u2019s\ninterests.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, in a democratic country, people are allowed to express\nopinions. Contradicting the official ruler, contradicting other groups\nof the people, and so on. But what is the point of conflict, the point\nof difference, is that it concerns the fate of the nation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
This controversy originated from a video uploaded by Amien on his\nYouTube channel titled \u2018KEEP THE PALACE AWAY FROM MORAL SCANDALS\u2019\nlasting about eight minutes. The video is no longer accessible.<\/p>\n
Previously, Meutya described the video as character assassination.\nMeutya stated that Amien Rais\u2019s statement contains hate speech and has\nthe potential to divide the nation.<\/p>\n

This\nhas the potential to divide the nation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Meutya stated that Komdigi will take steps in accordance with\napplicable laws. Anyone who creates and participates in distributing\nand\/or transmitting the video knowingly, she said, has committed a legal\nviolation as regulated in the ITE Law Number 1 of 2024 Article 27A and\nArticle 28 (2).<\/p>",
