        "content": "<p>Accord on statistic information signed<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Australian Bureau of Statistics yesterday<br>\nagreed to help modernize and expand the data system of<br>\nIndonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) and to exchange<br>\ndata which will be provided for governments and companies.<\/p>\n<p>BPS's chairman, Sugito Suwito, and his Australian counterpart<br>\nWilliam McLennan, signed the cooperation agreement, which will be<br>\nvalid for five years.<\/p>\n<p>\"The statistical system in Australia is quite similar to our<br>\nsystem in Indonesia, broadly centralized, so that it is easier<br>\nfor us to learn and exchange experience,\" Sugito said.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, the cooperation will cover the<br>\ndevelopment of BPS's network, the production of a common<br>\nIndonesian-Australian statistical glossary as well as the<br>\nimprovement of international trade and investment statistics,<br>\nlabor market data and information on social accounting matrix.<\/p>\n<p>The two bureaus also agreed to provide regional data on<br>\nIndonesia's eastern provinces and the Australian Northern<br>\nTerritory.<\/p>\n<p>Sugito said BPS annually processes data on around 660,000<br>\nexport documents and 540,000 import documents.<\/p>\n<p>Demand for timely international trade statistics is increasing<br>\nand BPS hopes to meet it, he said.
