Accepting with resignation<\/p>\n
The Javanese word legowo has become popular following the
\nfailure of former president Abdurrahman \" Gus Dur\" Wahid to
\nsatisfy the health requirements for standing in the presidential
\nelection. Used by both Javanese and non-Javanese people, this
\nword is often misinterpreted.<\/p>\n
Legowo means accepting something unpleasant in a sincere
\nmanner and with resignation. If the General Elections Commission
\n(KPU) had declared Gus Dur eligible to stand but nobody voted for
\nhim in the election, for instance, he would also have to accept
\nthe fact with resignation.<\/p>\n
Therefore, this term signifies sincerity and fair treatment
\nfor the person concerned, as well as all other parties upholding
\nthe law in this country. Everybody should be pleased to accept
\nthe outcome of the people's choice.<\/p>\n
Any deviation from this meaning would produce a historic
\nblunder with far-reaching consequences. Donor countries would
\nconsider Indonesia's elections flawed and possibly review their
\nloan policies.<\/p>\n
