JAKARTA, VIVA \u2013 Muhammad Reza Syarifuddin Zaki, an academic at Bina\nNusantara University\u2019s Business Law Faculty, has said that the handling\nof the corruption case implicating the former Junior Attorney General\nfor Special Crimes (Jampidsus) must be carried out professionally and\nwithout special treatment.<\/p>\n
According to Reza, the dynamics of the case have drawn public\nattention, from police investigators searching a number of locations,\nthe naming of a suspect, changes in how the case is being handled, to\ncalls for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to take over the\ncase to avoid potential conflicts of interest.<\/p>\n
He made the remarks at a discussion titled \u201cSupremacy of Law or\nPrivilege of Law? Testing the Public\u2019s Sense of Justice in the Handling\nof the Former Jampidsus Case\u201d held in Central Jakarta on Monday, 27 July\n2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis case is interesting to examine from an academic perspective,\nbecause from the searches, the naming of a suspect, the change in the\nstatus of the case\u2019s handling, to the pressure for the KPK to take over,\neverything has sparked debate in the public sphere,\u201d Reza said.<\/p>\n
He also responded to statements by FA, who claimed to be a victim of\ncriminalisation after being named a suspect and questioned by\ninvestigators.<\/p>\n
According to Reza, this argument raises questions when linked to the\ncases previously handled by FA during his tenure.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf everyone named a suspect then claims to be criminalised, legal\ncertainty will become ever harder to achieve,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Reza explained that, based on Constitutional Court rulings, a person\nmay be named a suspect if sufficient preliminary evidence exists,\nincluding an element of suspected losses to state finances.<\/p>\n
In his view, police investigators have set out the alleged state\nlosses in the case, so this element is considered fulfilled.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Reza said the alleged state losses in the case involving\nthe former Jampidsus are extremely large. For that reason, he said, the\nhandling process must be carried out seriously without granting special\ntreatment to any party.<\/p>\n
