Abused RI maid given shelter<\/p>\n
MALAYSIA: An Indonesian teenager working as a maid in Malaysia
\nhas been given shelter in the Indonesian consulate after she was
\nallegedly punched and beaten by her employers in the southern
\nJohor state, local media said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Acting on a tip, a group of officials from the Indonesian
\nconsulate in the state conducted a check on 18-year-old Jamiati
\nat a child care center where she worked.<\/p>\n
Her face was found to be swollen and her eyes bloodshot,
\nprompting officials to lodge a police report and take her to a
\nhospital for a medical examination.<\/p>\n
Indonesian Consul General Maryadi Hadisuwiryo said initial
\nmedical results showed that Jamiati, who hails from East Java,
\nwas a victim of abuse.<\/p>\n
\"We'll provide her with temporary shelter at our consulate,\"
\nhe was quoted as saying by Star daily.<\/p>\n
\"We are saddened by what has happened to her and I want to
\npersonally talk to her before considering further action.\"<\/p>\n
Jamiati had initially denied she was abused, telling police
\nthat her eyes were bloodshot as a result of fumes from a chili
\npaste she was making, and that she had fallen off a ladder while
\ncleaning a ceiling fan.<\/p>\n
However, police said that during further questioning, she said
\nshe had been punched in the eye and was the victim of continuous
