ABRI spokesman moves up<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Maj. Gen. Syarwan Hamid was sworn in as new
\nassistant to the chief of the socio-political department of the
\nArmed Forces (ABRI) yesterday, replacing Maj. Gen. Hari Sabarno.<\/p>\n
Syarwan will momentarily retain his post as the ABRI spokesman
\nand Hari Sabarno is participating in the regular course at the
\nNational Resilience Institute, awaiting new posting.<\/p>\n
Syarwan was once spokesman for the Siliwangi military command
\nof West Java, commandant of the Lhokseumawe military district in
\nAceh and spokesman for the Army.<\/p>\n
Graduating from the National Military Academy in 1966, he
\nbegan his career in 1967 when he joined an infantry battalion in
\nBali before heading the intelligence section of the Mataram
\nmilitary district in Lombok.<\/p>\n
In the swearing-in ceremony, chief of the ABRI socio-political
\naffairs department, Mohammad Ma'ruf said that the Armed Forces'
\nrole in politics would intensify in the future.<\/p>\n
Ma'ruf, a former governor of the institute, said that the
\nsocio-political department's task to assist the ABRI commander
\nwould be more complex.<\/p>\n
\"ABRI officers will play their role as the stabilizing and
\ndynamical force in the development of the nation,\" he said,
\nreported Antara.<\/p>\n
He said that, in the future, ABRI should be more pro-active in
\nhandling social problems.<\/p>\n
\"So far ABRI has played a strategic role in the development of
