ABRI sociopolitical wing reorganized<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Armed Forces (ABRI) headquarters has
\nannounced a structural reorganization of its sociopolitical
\ndivision, exactly one day ahead of the opening of the Special
\nSession of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR).<\/p>\n
Minister of Defense and Security\/Armed Forces Commander Gen.
\nWiranto told a media conference on Monday evening that the
\nreorganization would include a revision of the responsibilities
\nof the Armed Forces Chief of Sociopolitical Affairs.<\/p>\n
\"Under the structural reorganization, the post of Armed Forces
\nChief of Sociopolitical Affairs will be expanded to become a new
\npost known as the Armed Forces Chief of Territorial Affairs.<\/p>\n
\"The Armed Forces Chief of Territorial Affairs will supervise
\nthe Assistant for Territorial Affairs, a post formerly under the
\nsupervision of the Armed Forces Chief of General Affairs and
\nAssistant for Sociopolitical Affairs,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He did not say when this reorganization would take effect,
\nsaying only: \"We will ratify the new structure as soon as
\npossible. Hopefully, it can be implemented before the MPR's
\nSpecial Session.\"<\/p>\n
Wiranto said Lt. Gen. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would be moved
\nto the new post from his current position as the Armed Forces
\nChief of Sociopolitical Affairs.<\/p>\n
Regarding the Assistant for Non-Military Personnel Affairs, a
\npost formerly under the supervision of ABRI's Chief of
\nSociopolitical Affairs, Wiranto said the post would be merged
\nwith the Assistant for Personnel Affairs, a post which falls
\nunder the supervision of ABRI's Chief of General Affairs.<\/p>\n
He said the reorganization would have a significant impact on
\nmembers of the Armed Forces currently assigned to non-military
\nposts. \"Any member of the Armed Forces must now leave active
\nmilitary service before he or she can be assigned to any
\ngovernmental post or other non-military duties,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He disclosed that the Armed Forces headquarters was now
\ndetermining which of its personnel would be assigned to non-
\nmilitary duties.<\/p>\n
\"ABRI headquarters will assign 0.05 percent of its staff to
\nnon-military duties,\" he said.<\/p>\n
However, he dismissed the possibility that the new structure
\nwould automatically bring the Armed Forces' presence in the House
\nof Representatives (DPR) to an end. \"ABRI's representation in DPR
