        "content": "<p>ABRI sends officers for overseas duty<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Fifteen officers of the Armed Forces' Garuda XVI<br>\ncontingent reported to ABRI headquarters prior to leaving for<br>\ntheir assignments in war-torn Mozambique. Two reported for duty<br>\nin Somalia and another was headed for Kuwait, all working under<br>\nthe United Nations banners.<\/p>\n<p>The officers were received by Lt. Gen. H.B.L. Mantiri, ABRI's<br>\nChief of General Affairs, the Armed Forces' Headquarters in<br>\nCilangkap, East Jakarta, announced..<\/p>\n<p>The 15 Mozambique-bound are led by Maj. Kuswandi. They will be<br>\nworking there as observers.<\/p>\n<p>The two leaving for Somalia will join the UN peacekeeping<br>\nmission known as UNOSOM, and the one to Kuwait will assume a post<br>\nat the UN's Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission (UNIKOM).<\/p>\n<p>Mantiri in his brief speech said the overseas tasks were<br>\nlogical outgrowths of Indonesia's membership in the UN and were<br>\nalso in line with the country's ideology and constitution which<br>\nhighly values international peace.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia has had a long experience with past UN missions,<br>\neither as peacekeepers or as military observers, all named the<br>\nGaruda contingent, in Kuwait, Somalia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and<br>\nCambodia.<\/p>\n<p>A press report from Yemen suggested that Indonesia has also<br>\nbeen asked to take part in a UN peacekeeping mission there,<br>\nhowever officials in Jakarta were not available for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia will soon send a Garuda XV contingent to Angola, as<br>\nwell as an additional 10 people to Bosnia as military observers.<\/p>\n<p>Mantiri expressed his hope that the soldiers would profit from<br>\ntheir experiences, both for each individual and for the Armed<br>\nForces.
