        "content": "<p>ABRI reshuffles chiefs of strategic commands<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Armed Forces (ABRI) yesterday announced a<br>\nmajor reshuffle in some of its main commands, including the Army<br>\nStrategic Reserves (Kostrad), the Army&apos;s Special Forces<br>\n(Kopassus) and the military command in East Timor.<\/p>\n<p>Maj. Gen. Tarub, currently chief of the Trikora Command, has<br>\nbeen reassigned as Kostrad commandant to replace the retiring<br>\nMaj. Gen. Kuntara, according to the Antara news agency quoting a<br>\nstatement from ABRI&apos;s Information Center.<\/p>\n<p>Brig. Gen. Subagyo H.S., currently chief of the Army&apos;s<br>\nSecurity and Code division, was named commandant of Kopassus, the<br>\nArmy&apos;s elite force, in place of Brig. Gen. Agum Gumelar.<\/p>\n<p>Gumelar has been reassigned as chief of staff for the Bukit<br>\nBarisan Military Command which oversees northern Sumatra.<\/p>\n<p>Col. Johny Lumintang, the current chief of the Wira Dharma<br>\nmilitary regiment in East Timor, will be reassigned as commandant<br>\nof Kostrad&apos;s First Infantry Division. The ABRI statement did not<br>\nsay who will fill the position in East Timor.<\/p>\n<p>Altogether, 84 officers in ABRI&apos;s three services and the<br>\nNational Police were reassigned in the reshuffle ordered by ABRI<br>\nChief Gen. Feisal Tanjung in a letter dated Aug. 3, according to<br>\nAntara. The reshuffle affects 27 officers in the Army, 29 in the<br>\nNavy, seven in the Air Force and 21 in the National Police.<\/p>\n<p>Other major changes include the following:<\/p>\n<p>Maj. Gen. Pranowo, currently chief of the Bukit Barisan<br>\nMilitary Command in northern Sumatra, has been promoted as<br>\nassistant to the chief of ABRI&apos;s Social Political Affairs. His<br>\nposition will be filled by Brig. Gen. Arie J. Kumaat, currently<br>\ndeputy chief of ABRI&apos;s Intelligence Agency (BIA).<\/p>\n<p>Maj. Gen. Syamsir Siregar has been appointed chief of BIA and<br>\nassistant for intelligence affairs to ABRI&apos;s Chief of General<br>\nAffairs, replacing Maj. Gen. Arie Sudewo.<\/p>\n<p>Maj. Gen. Yunus Yosfiah, currently chief of Infantry Weaponry,<br>\nhas been named chief of the Sriwijaya Command which overseas<br>\nsouthern Sumatra.<\/p>\n<p>There are two major new appointments in the police force.<\/p>\n<p>Brig. Gen. Harimas has been appointed chief of Central Java<br>\nPolice and Brig. Gen.
