ABRI officers get degree<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Two senior Army officers have been awarded a
\ndoctorate degree from the United States' Westminster University.<\/p>\n
Maj. Gen. Bambang Soembodo and Col. Slamet Suharsa Padmosutoyo
\nwere the first Indonesian Armed Forces members to receive a
\ndegree from the university, a military spokesman said here
\nSaturday.<\/p>\n
The men presented their scientific oration in Jakarta Friday
\nnight.<\/p>\n
Soembodo was logistics assistant to the chief for general
\naffairs and is now senior officer for special tasks at the Armed
\nForces Headquarters, according to Antara.<\/p>\n
His scientific oration, titled \"Logistics of the Future:
\nConcepts and Precepts,\" was warmly received by the audience,
\nwhich included Westminster University President Prof. Ronald
\nWilson and Dr. Subandono, the university's representative
\ncoordinator in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Bambang, 54, said logistics had not been adequately taught in
\nIndonesia, especially in the military educational institutions,<\/p>\n
He suggested better logistics training to keep pace with
\ntechnological progress.<\/p>\n
Bambang finished training at the Military Academy in Magelang
\nin 1965, attended Army command and logistics schools in the
\nUnited States and the National Defense Institute in 1991.<\/p>\n
He obtained an MBA degree in 1992 and graduated from political
\nscience at the Open University in 1996.<\/p>",
