        "content": "<p>ABRI announces more leadership changes<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Armed Forces announced two more personnel<br>\nchanges in its leadership structure yesterday, in the posts of<br>\nassistant to the chief of sociopolitical affairs and the<br>\ncommandant of the Infantry Weapons Center.<\/p>\n<p>The current assistant to the chief of sociopolitical affairs,<br>\nMaj. Gen. Suwarno Adiwijoyo, will be replaced by his deputy,<br>\nBrig. Gen. Budi Harsono. The commandant of the Bandung-based<br>\nInfantry Weapons Center, Maj. Gen. Rudi Mokoginta will be<br>\nreplaced also by his deputy Brig. Gen. Luhut Panjaitan, Antara<br>\nreported yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>ABRI chief spokesman Brig. Gen. Amir Syarifudin told the news<br>\nagency that the two men replaced will be reassigned to the ABRI<br>\nheadquarters in order to prepare for their retirement.<\/p>\n<p>The mandatory retirement age for senior military officers is<br>\n55.<\/p>\n<p>Age was the reason behind the changes, Amir said. &quot;It&apos;s normal<br>\nbecause their time has come. There is no political reason behind<br>\nthe decision,&quot; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The changes were ordered by ABRI Chief Gen. Feisal Tanjung in<br>\na letter dated Sept. 15, and the transfers of duty will take<br>\nplace next week. The two brigadier generals are expected to be<br>\npromoted before they move to their new posts.<\/p>\n<p>Luhut&apos;s current position will be filled by Col. Sudiyono P,<br>\nthe center&apos;s director for guidance and physical training. Antara<br>\ndid not say who will takeover Budi&apos;s current position.<\/p>\n<p>Budi will become the new assistant to Lt. Gen. Syarwan Hamid,<br>\nwho holds a vital position in the military as the country<br>\nprepares for next year&apos;s general election.<\/p>\n<p>Syarwan has been active in popularizing ABRI&apos;s positions on<br>\nvarious political issues in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>Budi, 50 years old and hailing from Yogyakarta, is a 1967<br>\ngraduate of the Military Academy.<\/p>\n<p>He has had two stints in military operations in East Timor,<br>\nand has served in the Diponegoro regional command in Central Java<br>\nand the Siliwangi command in West Java.<\/p>\n<p>Luhut, 49 years and hailing from North Sumatra, is a 1970<br>\ngraduate of the Military Academy. He spent most of his early<br>\nyears in the Army in the elite Special Forces (Kopassus), before<br>\nhe moved to Weaponry Center in Bandung, first as commandant of<br>\nthe Infantry Education Center.
