ABRI and Golkar<\/p>\n
In an address at the Sabilil Mutaqien Islamic boarding school
\nin Takeran, Magetan, East Java, the Chief of Staff of the Army,
\nGen. R. Hartono, repeated the statement he made earlier in
\nKaranganyar, Surakarta, that all members of the Armed Forces
\n(ABRI) are Golkar cadres and that there needed to be no debate
\nabout this fact.<\/p>\n
As historical background to his statement, he said that all
\nthis had its origins in events that took place at the time of the
\ncampaign against the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI), when
\nGolkar, together with other organizations, and ABRI worked side
\nby side to crush the PKI.<\/p>\n
We only remind that the PKI could not have been crushed by
\nABRI and Golkar alone. The same goes for our current development
\nefforts. Without the participation of the Indonesian people the
\nfruits of our development efforts would not be authentic and
\ncould even miss the intended objectives.<\/p>\n
Abandoning the people as Indonesia enters the era of
\nglobalization could bring disappointments.<\/p>\n
