ABRI academies get new chief<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Vice Adm. Achmad Sutjipto was installed
\nyesterday as the new commandant general of the Armed Forces'
\nacademies, replacing Lt. Gen. Tamlicha Ali.<\/p>\n
Minister of Defense and Security\/Armed Forces (ABRI) Commander
\nGen. Wiranto led the transfer of duty ceremony held at ABRI
\nHeadquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Also present were Army Chief Gen. Subagyo HS, Chief of the
\nArmed Forces Staff and Command School Lt. Gen. Prabowo Subianto
\nand Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense and Security Lt.
\nGen. Suyono.<\/p>\n
Sutjipto was formerly commander of the Navy's Western Fleet.<\/p>\n
Wiranto said during the ceremony that the regular change of
\ncommand over the academies was aimed at improving the military
\neducational system's effectiveness.<\/p>\n
\"We realize that the transfer is held amid a crisis situation
\nand the spreading demand for total reform,\" he said, possibly
\nreferring to the spate of transfers in the military's senior
\nposts over the last two weeks.<\/p>\n
\"The Armed Forces' academies are expected to play a strategic
\nand vital role in producing professional and loyal cadets in
\nmeeting all challenges faced by the nation as it enters the era
\nof globalization and reform,\" he said as quoted by Antara.<\/p>\n
The military academies -- the Army Academy in Magelang,
\nCentral Java; the Navy Academy in Surabaya, East Java; the Air
\nForce Academy in Yogyakarta and the National Police Academy in
\nSemarang, Central Java -- have contributed greatly to the
\nnation's development, he said.<\/p>\n
He thanked Tamlicha for his service in developing the
\nacademies and wished him success in his next assignment.<\/p>\n
Tamlicha will be appointed secretary-general of the Ministry
\nof Transmigration and Resettlement of Forest Squatters. (rms)<\/p>",
