The crisis befalling Indonesia is a major consequence of the
\nblunder made during the 32-year rule of the New Order regime
\nunder Soeharto.<\/p>\n
This crisis has been protracted, with the emergence of the
\npost-Soeharto government of reformists who are too immature to
\nlead the country. They have assumed the position of a new force
\nthat is supposed to save the nation from the economic quandary.<\/p>\n
The present government comprises reform figures devoid of the
\npopulist spirit once cherished and fostered by first-president
\nSukarno.<\/p>\n
The proposed granting of an \"abolition\" (revocation of
\ncharges) to Soeharto due to his deteriorating state of health
\nconstitutes disguised trickery by remaining New Order
\nconspirators to subvert history for the second time, by
\nsacrificing the population for the sake of a safe haven for
\nSoeharto and his cronies.<\/p>\n
In order to resolve the accumulating issues the nation is
\nfacing, President Megawati should first have the courage to
\nstraighten out our history factually and openly, followed by the
\nformation of a transitional government firmly based on the
\nPancasila state philosophy and the 1945 Constitution, truly
\nimbued with the aspirations of the Aug. 17, 1945 proclamation of
\nindependence.<\/p>\n
