Abdurrahman named for presidency<\/p>\n
SEMARANG: The provincial office of the National Awakening
\nParty (PKB) here announced on Friday its support for the party
\nfounding father Abdurrahman Wahid to run for the presidency.<\/p>\n
Chief of PKB's Central Java office Noer Iskandar Al-Barsany,
\nsaid the decision to name Abdurrahman, better known as Gus Dur,
\nas the chapter's sole presidential candidate, was unchangeable.<\/p>\n
\"We will present our aspiration as soon as possible and are
\nset on fighting to make our nomination accepted,\" Iskandar said.<\/p>\n
He said executives of the provincial party office agreed to
\nchoose the National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman Amien Rais and
\nIndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle chairwoman Megawati
\nSoekarnoputri as vice presidential candidates.<\/p>\n
\"Both Amien and Megawati fit the bill to accompany Gus Dur
\nbecause of their commitment to sweeping reforms,\" Iskandar said.<\/p>\n
The three opposition leaders have signed a joint-communique to
\ncontain the status quo force.<\/p>\n
Iskandar said if Abdurrahman failed or refused to join the
\nrace for presidency, the PKB Central Java chapter would pick
\nparty chairman Matori Abdul Djalil as an alternate. (har)<\/p>",
