        "content": "<p>ABD to assist Cambodia<\/p>\n<p>PHNOM PENH (AFP): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed<br>\nto assist the Cambodian government by funding a five-year-plan to<br>\nboost the economic development of this once war ravaged country,<br>\na local paper reported yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Senior officials signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU)<br>\nfor US$3.9 million to assist the implementation of the plan, the<br>\nEnglish-language Cambodia Daily reported.<\/p>\n<p>The signatories were the Manila-based Asian Development Bank<br>\n(ADB), the ministry of finance, the ministry of planning and the<br>\nCouncil for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).<\/p>\n<p>The effective implementation of the plan would require close<br>\ncooperation and communication between the two ministries and the<br>\nCDC, ABD official Urooj Malik said after the signing Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Finance Minister Keat Chhon said the plan, designed to steer<br>\neconomic policy until the year 2000, was the first for Cambodia<br>\nsince the formation of the royal government in 1993.<\/p>",
