A willing nurse
\nfeels unwelcomed<\/p>\n
My dear brothers and sisters, I am a registered nurse with
\nmany years of general nursing and intensive care experience who
\nwas in the process of volunteering services for three to four
\nmonths in Aceh.<\/p>\n
I felt compelled to help the people of my birth country, but I
\nam afraid that the decision by our military commanders and,
\ntherefore, our government will not make my desire to serve our
\ncountrymen and women realistic.<\/p>\n
It is with great regret that I may cancel my trip back to
\nIndonesia. Since I am now a citizen of the United States, I do
\nnot feel welcomed by our government. What a sad state of affairs
\nit has become where my people are afraid of outsiders willing to
\nhelp at a time of their greatest need.<\/p>\n
The people of America have deployed soldiers, sailors and
\nairmen to assist in the rehabilitation of areas damaged in the
\ntsunami disaster. God willing, the people that are affected will
\nfind peace and happiness soon. However, without rehabilitation
\nand medical assistance we should not expect miracles sooner than
\nfrom many years to come.<\/p>\n
God willing, the government will overturn the decision made
\nregarding the relocation of foreign aid workers and welcome them
\nto rebuild roads, schools, places of worship and houses.<\/p>\n
It is time to lay down arms and talk with those who mistrust
\nour government and help the Acehnese to understand that
\nindependence without resources is very difficult indeed.<\/p>\n
