A sincere stimulus package<\/p>\n
How interesting it was to turn our attention to the
\ngovernment's response to the Marriott Hotel bombing tragedy.<\/p>\n
A day after the incident, the government promised to launch a
\nnumber of stimulus packages to cushion the economy against the
\nimpact of the latest terrorist bomb attack.<\/p>\n
The objective of the stimulus, as mentioned by Finance
\nMinister Budiono, is to restore the business climate and
\ninvestment in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Certainly, a business stimulus is expected to be launched in
\nthe near future so that it could be enjoyed by businessmen.<\/p>\n
However, they have to be brace themselves for some
\ndisappointment, because economic packages sometimes miss their
\ntarget.<\/p>\n
It is still fresh in our minds that soon after last year's
\nBali bombing tragedy, the government announced a number of
\nstimulus packages.<\/p>\n
However in reality, businessmen have conceded that instead of
\nenjoying the stimulus, they were the ones who had to provide
\nincentives to the government.<\/p>\n
Hence, we have to admit that the government, without the Bali
\nand Marriott bombings, has been cornered as a result of its
\nlimited funds.<\/p>\n
On the preparation of the stimulus package after the Marriott
\nbombing, it would be better for the government to have a dialog
\nwith businessmen so that the economic package to be launched
\ncould hit its mark.<\/p>\n
