A pilot working for a national airline and two friends were
\narrested on Wednesday evening for taking shabu-shabu (crystal
\nmethamphetamine), city police said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
East Jakarta deputy police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Hilman said
\nGaruda Indonesia pilot identified as, Johan, 29, and two
\naccomplices identified as Ella and Lukman, were arrested when
\nhaving a drug party in a house in Berlan, Matraman.<\/p>\n
"Actually we suspected that at least six people were involved
\nin the party at the house. However, we could only nab three
\npersons, including Johan. The other three managed to escape,"
\nHilman said.<\/p>\n
Police confiscated around 20 grams of shabu-shabu and
\nequipment for using the drug from the three, he said.<\/p>\n
Initial investigations showed that Johan was using the drug as
\nguest at the house, while owners Ella and Lukman had bought it.<\/p>\n
"We have interrogated them. Ella has admitted that the drug
\nbelonged to her. She got the drug from someone in Kampung Ambon
\nin East Jakarta," Hilman said.<\/p>\n
Police conducted an operation in the complex after reports
\nfrom several residents in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n
At around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, police raided the house and
\narrested the three.<\/p>\n
Hilman said initially Johan told police that he was just an
\nemployee of an airline company, but when police checked his
\nemployee identity card, it was revealed that he was a Garuda
\npilot.<\/p>\n
Johan told police he had just returned from the United States,
\nwhere he was learning about aviation, he said.<\/p>\n
The three suspects were still being questioned at the East
\nJakarta Police precinct on Thursday afternoon, with police
\nfocussing their investigation on the identity of the supplier of
\nthe drug.<\/p>\n
They are to be charged under Articles 81 and 82 of Law No.
\n22\/1997 on psychotropic drugs. If found guilty they could face a
\nmaximum of 15 years in jail.<\/p>\n
Many people from all walks of life, including police officers,
\nprosecutors, actors, students, civil servants, have been caught
\ntaking or trafficking drugs during the past few months.<\/p>\n
The most recent case was the arrest of Cibinong prosecutor
\nHendra Ruhendra in his apartment in Taman Rasuna, South Jakarta,
\nwith more than 200 grams of shabu-shabu.<\/p>\n
Earlier, a police officer identified as Adj. Comr. Alijoni was
\narrested in a drug party in Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta, while
\nseveral actors were also nabbed for ecstasy tablets in several
\nraids in discotheques last month.<\/p>\n
In April, police arrested the former deputy chairman of the
\ndefunct Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) Taufik
\nMappaenre Ma'ruf for possession of 3.1 grams of marijuana at the
\nSoekarno-Hatta Airport in Cengkareng, Tangerang. Taufik was on
\nhis way to Bali for a vacation.<\/p>",
