        "content": "<p>A challenge to Agum Gumelar<\/p>\n<p>I should have written this letter when the accident of Cirebon <br>\nExpress and Empu Jaya trains occurred three months ago.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately another tragedy, the train collision between the <br>\nGaya Baru and the Empu Jaya, took place on Dec. 25, 2001.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to problems of the railway, nearly all forms of <br>\npublic transportation in this country are cause for great <br>\nconcern.<\/p>\n<p>Vehicles, infrastructure and equipment for public transport <br>\ndesperately needs to be renewed and modernized.<\/p>\n<p>Most important of all is the much-needed improvement of the <br>\nquality of human resources. In Jakarta alone, we can see clearly <br>\nhow careless bus drivers behave while on the roads.<\/p>\n<p>It would be appropriate if all forms of public transportation <br>\nwere to display lists of the names and phone numbers of the <br>\nmanagers of transportation companies, so that passengers could <br>\ndirectly report the reckless acts of drivers to their superiors.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, Transportation Minister Agum Gumelar and his <br>\npersonnel will overcome these matters regarding the security, <br>\nsafety and convenience -- for the sake of all users of public <br>\ntransportation in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>AMIR SIDHARTA<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta<\/p>",
